Local Activities
The activities are endless in this area. Summer provides hiking, mountain biking, and paddling, while winter provides downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing, all from your doorstep.
Drive another 45 minutes past Nelson and you will reach Kaslo, a charming old west town built on the shores of the Kootenay Lake with great restaurants and shops. On your way to Kaslo you can stop at the legendary Ainsworth Hot Springs to warm up on those cool days, or for those hot days, take the kids to Mirror Lake and jump off the diving board from the floating dock.
Driving 1 hour north up the Slocan Valley from Glade, will take you beside the Slocan River and silvery Slocan Lake to the quaint town of New Denver. Spend the day wandering the shops or hit the beach. Paddling opportunities are endless on the Slocan Lake and River.
Driving 15 mins. south from Glade cottage will take you to Castlegar where you may explore beaches and parks on the Arrow Lake and Columbia River. At Castlegar, you may head west for 45 minutes to the warm waters of Christina Lake. Alternatively, in winter you may end this drive at the 30 minute point and stop for the over 50 kms of groomed cross country ski trails of the Blueberry-Paulson area. More skiing is also available at Rossland which is accessed by heading south at Castlegar.
